Logarithmic Properties

The logarithm is the inverse function to exponentiation. It means the logarithm of a given number x is the exponent to which another fixed number, the base b, must be raised, to produce that number x.

eg.,

logb x = y which is same to by = x

log2 8 = 3 same as 23 = 8

The following are the properties of logarithm.

logb xy = logb x + logb y

logb (x/y) = logb x - logb y

logb xn = n logb x

logb a = logc a / logc b

logb a = 1 / loga b

Some basic values of logarithm

logb1 = 0

logbb = 1

logbb2 = 2
